LAREDO, TX.- Driving safely on state highways and roads alerted the Texas Department of Public Safety to reduce accidents and fatalities.
This Labor Day weekend is called conscientiously because there will be vigilance looking for those who refuse to wear seat belts, speed drivers, people who drive while intoxicated.
In addition to those who do not follow the Move Over instructions of the state. Slow Down Law, among other traffic violations.
«Safety should always come first,» said DPS Director Steven McCraw. “That’s especially true when there are more people on the roads, like Labor Day weekend. Remember to do your part by paying attention, buckling up, and obeying all traffic laws.”
During the 2021 Labor Day holiday, Troopers issued 52,227 citations and warnings. This included 4,397 speeding citations; 882 seat belt and child restraint citations; 929 citations for not having insurance; and 245 warnings and citations for Move Over, Slow Down violations. DPS also had 222 DWI arrests, 229 felony arrests and 116 fugitive arrests.
Drivers are asked to keep the following tips in mind during the Labor Day holiday:
· Do not drink and drive. Make alternate plans if you are consuming alcohol.
· Move Over or Slow Down for police, fire, EMS, TxDOT and tow trucks stopped on the side of the road with their hazard lights on. Show the same courtesy to fellow drivers who are stopped on the side of the road.
· Buckle up everyone in the vehicle — it’s the law.
· Slow down, especially in bad weather, heavy traffic, unfamiliar areas, or construction zones.
· Eliminate distractions while driving, including the use of mobile devices. Texas law prohibits the use of portable wireless devices to read, write, or send an electronic message unless the vehicle is stopped. If you are using a navigation device or app, have a passenger operate it so you can keep your eyes on the road.
· Drive defensively, as vacation travel can present additional challenges.
· Know your route before starting your trip.
· Do not drive while fatigued. Allow enough time to reach your destination.

LAREDO, TX.- Conducir de manera segura en carreteras y caminos estatales alertó el Departamento de Seguridad Pública de Texas para reducir accidentes y fatalidades.
Este fin de semana del Día del Trabajo se convoca a conciencia porque habrá vigilancia buscando a quien se rehúsa usar cinturones de seguridad, conductores de velocidad, personas que manejen en estado de ebriedad.
Además a quienes no siguen las instrucciones Move Over del estado. Ley Slow Down, entre otras infracciones de tránsito.
“La seguridad siempre debe ser lo primero”, dijo el director de DPS, Steven McCraw. “Eso es especialmente cierto cuando hay más personas en las carreteras, como el fin de semana del Día del Trabajo. Recuerde hacer su parte prestando atención, abrochándose el cinturón y obedeciendo todas las leyes de tránsito”.
Durante el feriado del Día del Trabajo de 2021, Troopers emitió 52,227 citaciones y advertencias.
