LAREDO, TX – Police were able to identify the man who shot two women north of Laredo.
After an investigation, a verbal confrontation escalated into domestic violence.
Fernando González, 50, is a fugitive from justice and has two outstanding warrants.
According to police documents, he is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and being a fugitive.
The victims were Verónica Martínez, 42, and Esmeralda Montoya Lara, 18, who are reported to be in critical condition. Martinez’s injuries from the gunshot wounds from González’s weapon put her in critical condition.
Police reported that Montoya Lara’s injuries from the gunshot wounds are not life-threatening.
On Thursday at 7:15 a.m., police were informed of a shooting on Michigan Street, in an apartment complex.
Patrol officers responded to the area and found the two victims bleeding from the bullet wounds they had received.
Fire Department paramedics stabilized the victims’ injuries and drove them to Los Doctores Hospital.
Crimes against persons investigators took over the case and began reporting events identified as domestic violence.
They escalated their efforts to learn details about who might have attacked the two women. Using their resources and experience, police identified the suspect, Gonzalez, who is now wanted by the courts and a reward is being offered.
